I had a lot of fun finally joining in with SciFi Month last November that when I heard there is also a themed month celebrating all things Fantasy organised by fellow bloggers I immediately wanted to join in too!
Wyrd & Wonder, if you’ve never heard of it before, takes place in May and is a month of reading, watching, gaming and celebrating all things Fantasy hosted by – Imyril @ There’s Always Room For One More, Lisa @ Dear Geek Place, Jorie @ Jorie Loves A Story, Ariana @ The Book Nook & Annemieke @ A Dance With Books.
For more information check out Annemieke’s post here!
Now my reading schedule is as packed as expected for May but I of course already have a couple of Fantasy titles planned for the month, and all of them pretty much involve MAGIC in some way which is the theme this year! Since I also have a copy of The Bone Witch waiting to be ticked off of my owned books tbr I may join in with the readalong for that as well if I can!
Here’s are my tbr hopefuls!
THE ART OF PROPHECY by Wesley Chu
Martial arts and magic! I was sent a copy of this one for review (thank you Black Crow PR & Daphne Press) and just look at that cover art 😍
Prophecies going wrong and a band of misfits teaming up to save a kingdom? It just sounds so cool and reviews from friends who really enjoyed it have got me super hyped too!

PERILOUS TIMES by Thomas D. Lee
I have been excited about this one ever since I heard about it because CONTEMPORARY ARTHURIAN RETELLING AND A LONDON SETTING!?
Again I have a review copy of this one (Thank you Orbit Books UK) and the reviews that are already going around for this one have ramped up my excitement even more! Release day is May 23rd (US) & May 25th (UK).

THE SWORD DEFIANT by Gareth Hanrahan
Another review copy sent to me from Orbit Books UK and this is the book I am kicking off the month with as I’m buddy reading it with a friend.
This one wasn’t actually on my radar before a copy landed on my doorstep but I’ve heard great things about the author’s other books and the cursed sentient magical sword has me very intrigued! Release day May 2nd (US) & May 4th (UK).
☆☆☆
THE BATTLE DRUM by Saara El-Arifi
I absolutely loved The Final Strife last year so of course this was going to be one of my most anticipated sequels of the year!
The first book in the series had the feel of so many fantasy and dystopian books that I have enjoyed in the past but spun everything together in such a unique and compelling way and i’m excited to see how the story continues! Release day is May 23rd (US) & May 25th (UK).

SUNBOLT by Intisar Khanani
Sunbolt came third in the BBNYA 2022 awards and after really enjoying the Dauntless Path books (go read them if you haven’t already!!!) I immediately signed on to take part in The Write Reads blog tour for this book!
It’s on the shorter side but Khanani is such a talented writer and i’m excited to be picking up more work by her!

THE SPEAR CUTS THROUGH WATER by Simon Jimenez
This is my current audio listen which I’ve carried forward from April and honestly WOW what a book.
It has had me entranced from the very beginning and the way Jimenez seamlessly narrates and jumps between first, second and third person in this book, that’s storytelling magic I tell you!

RIVERS OF LONDON by Ben Aaronovitch
A reread for me, this is the audiobook I plan to start next and listen to throughout May!
I’ve heard the audiobooks for this series are pretty great and so to continue with the series I figured I’d give the first few books a reread and then catch up with the series this way as my library happens to have all the books in this format.
Quite an ambitious tbr I know, with how many chunky books I’ve listed but since they’re all pretty much for review that’s always a pretty big motivator for me😅 I’m hopeful that I’ll get to most of them!
Are you taking part in Wyrd & Wonder this year? Or are there any Fantasy titles you plan on reading / are anticipating this month?
I know you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, but a lot of books you listed would probably be cover-buys for me. Especially The Art of Prophecy!
